We here at the desk of Jamaicantheory.com takes our time to view what we believe is real! Guess who popped up on our path, yes I, you’ve guessed right, Lisa Hanna. We will say, for right now, that this lady is doing it the real way.

Back from her days on the runway, Lisa had always seemed to be the brightest in the room, surely the prettiest I must confess, but that’s for a next day. (we smirk wryly) Beauty and brains are great recipes for success and she got em both.

Politics in every country is filled with cunny buds, (cunning people) it’s a given, we know this, we have a problem though – when these cunny buds feel they can trick us! We run with the notion that nearing elections we’ll see our rep a bit more and we are sometimes relaxed with the thought that our roads will be fixed then, rightly so, afterall, politicians benz must not drop in potholes, what you did think< road fix for you? ok then!

Lisa Hanna on the other hand seems smart, well if she is a cunny bud, there you go, she trick me. Lisa stays in touch with the people all in #CORONA, yes no mask and all. Be safe though Lisa something’s out there. Lisa, question. How do you find time to hit the gym, staying slim, do the wife and mother thing, which by the eye.. you seems to be doing well, then come amongst us so regularly? Is what? You know something that most of em old timers don’t? Girl! A friend of mines suggest that you could run Jamaica, and you know what, she could be right.

We will never have a perfect leader in nothing, a friend told me even #GOD made the Devil, Mistake!? what we can do is strive to be our best servant for the people and that’s all we ask of our politicians. Be there for the people take our needs serious, fix our streets regularly, make sure we have basics: Light, Water and good schools for our kids. it’s my theory of a successful politician. is that so hard? No sah, Lisa make it look easy. #Jamaicantheory says Lisa Hanna is not a #Cunnybud, she’s one for Jamaica, she’s one for the people of South East Saint Ann. (#SESA)

Shahine Elizabeth Fakhourie Robinson who made her transition on May 28th 2020 was a very humble individual. Her calm and elegant posture could be noted in the many Parliamentary sittings, her interactions with the public as well as her many addresses in her capacity as Minister throughout her successful political career. A formidable political stalwart; she was one who served her constituents of North East St. Ann and country well since 2001.

Date of Birth: July 4, 1953

Education: Immaculate Conception High Miami Dade College Where she studied Marketing and Public Relations

Political Career

Mrs Robinson entered representational politics almost 2 decades ago, when she defeated the Peoples National Party Candidate in a By-Election in 2001. Fast Forward to 2002 she dominated the polls in the General Elections and retained the North East St. Ann Constituency seat since.

In 2010 Mrs Robinson faced some political challenges when it was revealed that she was a dual citizen. She held both American and Jamaican Citizenship. The seat then became vacant due to the legal troubles; however, she was re-elected in a by-election that same year and continued her leadership as Member of Parliament.

Ministerial Roles

Mrs Robinson wore many hats and was not limited in her political ambitions. During her career she served in the following ministries:

Minister of Labour and Social Security (2016 – 2020)

Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister 2007

Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works (2011)

Was the only one who could keep Everald Warmington Quiet

Her colleagues described her as” the only one who could tell Everald Warmington to behave and he listened”

Looking back the two were almost always sitting beside each other in Parliament. In a Jamaica Gleaner Article, it quotes Warmington as saying ” We look at life through the same lens. She was a no-nonsense person; so am I, we both cared dearly for our people and represent them with genuineness, with her heart she doesn’t make a fool of them”

Rest in Peace Shahine, may God continue to guide and protect those you left behind as you continue to watch over them

Councillor Kari Douglas of the Trafalgar Division and former Rise United supporter, crossed the floor of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) to join the ranks of the Jamaica Labour Party.

The decision as indicated by Douglas was one that was thought about long and hard however; the time finally came to take the leap.

According to source@Jamaica Gleaner Online see Douglas’s Full Statement on why she decided to switch political allegiance.

Full Statement From Kari Douglas

I hereby confirm that I have elected to leave the People’s National Party (PNP) to continue serving my country as a member of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

Consequently, this morning I made the symbolic walk in crossing the political aisle in the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).

For sometime, I have been deeply concerned that my former party has become a political organization which is primarily focused on winning elections at any cost, as opposed to pursuing an unswerving commitment to national development and in that process listening to the people and creating policies to meet their needs.

My former political party has also for some time not been a space where creative ideas, especially the thoughts of young people, are encouraged and treated seriously. I have decided that enough is enough.

Honesty dictates that I concede that given the tribal nature of our politics, my political antecedence and the likelihood that some individuals in my former political party may seek to be vindictive following this announcement – making this transition across the political aisle was not an easy decision.

But crucially, I must indicate that given the dynamic leadership with a positive difference that Prime Minister Holness has been able to offer the country and the JLP over the past few years, I am certain and in absolutely no doubt that I have made the right decision.

There are many people across Jamaica, especially young people who have had a re-awakening of their political views due to the Prime Minister and JLP Leader’s refreshing approach to politics and steering the reigns of Government in a manner which puts the interest of the people first and also is not afraid to hold accountable public officials who step out of line.

I am one of the many who have had to decisively re-think past political ideologies and affiliation. Today I am happy to announce that I have made a decision in the interest of my country.

I intend to continue practising the kind of political representation I always have, that is seeking to secure the interest of the people of Jamaica regardless of their political persuasion or the ‘colour’ of their politics.

Even as I remain Councillor for the Trafalgar Division, I look forward to making my contribution to the Prime Minister and the JLP’s exciting vision of building a new Jamaica which is prosperous for all.

Culture Minister Olivia Grange defends the culture ministry and sought to dismiss claims by the South East St Ann Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna.

Hanna who accused the minister of nepotism and corruption in the awarding of a contract for the Jamaica Emancipation and Heritage Week celebrations during her sectoral debate presentation on Tuesday.

Hanna was making her contribution to the 2017/18 sectoral debate told the House that a culture of extravagance has developed at the Ministry, led by Minister Grange.

She questioned why only $60-million of the $440-million set aside for upcoming Jamaica 55 celebrations has been allocated to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, JCDC.

She accused the JCDC of hiring a consultant to assist with the Jamaica 55 celebrations at a cost of $15-million.

“Where has the rest of the $440 million gone?..Hanna asked

However; Grange in hitting back stated that $440 million was allocated to the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports for Emancipation and Heritage Week in 2017-18.

“She (Hanna) said that of the $440 million, only $60 million was allocated to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) for promotion of cultural activities, and then asked, suggesting that some corruption had taken place, ‘Where has the rest of the money gone?'” Grange said.

Grange then referred to the estimates of expenditure (big yellow book). She further stated that by looking in the book one can see that what Hanna is purporting is a big fat lie”

Grange, meanwhile, noted that the expenditure on the 2016 Grand Gala was $62.5 million, not $65 million as Hanna had indicated.

And she vehemently rejected Hanna’s suggestions that the JCDC is being bypassed by the Jamaica 55 secretariat, and in favour of personal consultants.

“Big, fat lie; false news like plastic rice,” Grange said as she sought to clear the air about the allegations.

Grange went further to say that there were legitimate channels, including the Access to Information and whistle-blower law, which allowed individuals to ask for and receive information.

“Instead, the MP has relied on leaked information, innuendos, and misinformation to arrive at faulty conclusions,” Grange said.

Hanna went further to sate that “I am going to give to the prime minister the records of what I produced yesterday (April 4).

So who is telling the truth, the war of words between these two lady seem to be getting out of hand.

There are many political perspectives, however; individuals are allowed to express their opinion an matters based on how they perceive them.

See full editorial article below taken from the Jamaica Gleaner Online:

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is with interest that I read of Dr Phillips’ claim that he would welcome Damion Crawford back to representational politics. Years ago when Crawford was the University of the West Indies’ Guild president, I would beam with pride as a young Jamaican, watching him stand up with students, and felt sure that he would be a force to be reckoned with as one of Jamaica’s young leaders. As president of the People’s National Party Youth Organisation, I was even more convinced he possessed the capacity and the capability, intellectually and otherwise, to be the type of leader we needed to see. Further, in relation to his Rastafarian affiliation, I recall fondly the reaction as he was being sworn in. For many, it was just funny, but as a student of literature and, by extension, history, I note the significance of the occasion and what it meant to the Rastafarian community. Suffice it all to say, I watched his progression and believed wholeheartedly that he would be one of the best role models to Jamaican youth and, equally, a prolific political leader.

On the contrary, I was left disappointed with the type of politics he chose to represent. It was heart-wrenching to hear him speak and to see him modelling the politics I was sure he would fight to erase within the political fraternity. It was almost as if he suddenly became unaware of the power he had to be the voice of true change. In the words of my mother, “Politics get to him head.”

FOCUS ON EDUCATION

I am not suggesting that nothing he did as a politician was noteworthy. In fact, I remember and supported his targeting of young people in his constituency through education, instead of continuing the culture of ‘hand-outs’. However, again this was not communicated tactfully to his constituency members and so was not supported by many. In addition, the other negatives that were eroding his space made it difficult for persons to see where he was really going.

Despite all this, I still believe Crawford has much to offer. Hence, I take this opportunity to beseech him to reassess himself should he decide to return to representative politics. I am sure I am not the only young person in Jamaica that believes he can make a serious dent in the political and social ills of Jamaica.

If you come back, Sir, please be the change we believe you can be.

Now that the People’s National Party is in the hands of a new leader Dr. Peter Phillips everyone has joined in the fanfare.

This after veteran Politician and former Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller bid her farewell yesterday.

People’s National Party members, were ecstatic when Damion Crawford declared that Holness is not fit to run the country yesterday inside the National Arena.

Crawford, said he had heard the criticisms that Phillips, at 67 years old, cannot match Holness, at 44 year old, in an election race.

But the one-time politician said he was not fazed because age was not a factor in a Maths race when Holness does not have the formula.

“Andrew is a youth, but he is not a good youth, Crawford said in a witty introduction of the new PNP president.

Crawford has been a sustained critic of Holness.

Phillips, Crwaford said has proved himself in his past cabinet positions over the past 21 years.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness is giving members of his cabinet an additional six month to prove their worth, which will determine if they are the best fit for the job assigned.

In the lead up to the general election one year ago Holness had signaled to members of his team that job descriptions would be provided but that is yet to materialize.

However; Holness in speaking to the Jamaica Gleaner last Wednesday during a review of the governments one year performance cited that they all know their targets and job descriptions are currently being prepared.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness briefing:

“After one year the ministers are settled in, there is no question and I have been evaluating each and every one. The challenge that I had is that we started in a year where they couldn’t really say they had the opportunity to plan out that year’s programme,” said Holness.

The administration basically inherited a budget from the PNP, and the ministers had to carry out several plans and programmes which were already in place.

“So they have six more (months) to take their current agendas, which they would have started in the middle of last year, to carry through for a full year of their own agenda, and that is how I’m judging them.

“So basically, I would give one year and six months for them to truly achieve the things that they have set for themselves to achieve. And the ministers are well aware. They know what their tasks are and the commitment still stands. After this year they are fully in charge of their portfolios,” added Holness.

According to the prime minister, there were several legacy issues left over by the previous administration that his ministers had to address in the first year.

“The legacy issues that this Government has had to deal with have seen us spending time trying to resolve issues that were just left unresolved. Issues going back to even when we were in government the first time (2007-2011).

“Not to make a criticism of any government but simply to say the process of government must be not to leave any negative legacies but to solve the problems in the term,” added Holness.
